Budget Accommodation In Cape Town
The words budget accommodation somehow seems to bring images of Long Street in Cape Town to mind. Long Street is one of the oldest and today one of trendiest streets in Cape Town. Backpacker lodges quickly made it their home and many other establishments have joint the endeavor.
Daddy Long Legs Self-catering Apartments
Apart from the popular hostels in Long Streets, Daddy Long Legs self- catering apartments come extremely highly rated. The apartments have all the usual appliances you would expect from self- catering venues. They also have a washing machine in the apartment which is something you don’t always associate with self-catering facilities in Cape Town. It is however a wonderful addition to the standard equipment that any mother with small or even bigger children would appreciate.
One World Lodge
One World Lodge is the other Long Street venue that needs mentioning. It stands proudly as the smallest hostel-like, self- catering accommodation with only two rooms. It works very much on the same concept as a hostel but can only accommodate four people at a time. The pink Victorian building is just one of the landmarks in this busy street. The location is perfect for sightseeing, dining and clubbing. Long Street further hosts an array of interesting shops with one of the biggest bead shops around. Authentic African crafts, bookshops, a tailor and even Turkish baths complete the mixture.
Sea Point
Sea Point is the other area that comes to mind when you think about budget accommodation. While the hotels are not necessarily cheap you will find some three and four star hotels and guesthouses in the area that are remarkably cheaper than the same grading accommodation at the V&A waterfront and Camps Bay or Clifton. Anything at the end of any of the winding roads towards the mountains will guarantee a great view of the ocean. There are quite a few high rising apartment buildings close to beach that can restrict the views of the accommodation on lower levels.
Protea Hotel
The Protea Hotel in Sea Point is known for its great specials at any time during the year. Sometimes it is a last minute special and other times it can be winter specials or midweek specials. Luxury suites with specific art themes such as the Ndebele art works and dolls or the art of one South Africa’s renowned artists add a unique experience for those who choose to stay in these suites.
Tamboerskloof is practically in the city but quieter than the city bowl. There is a variety of self catering flats in this area at very reasonable prices. Many of the establishments are renovated Victorian Houses or buildings that have been around Cape Town for many, many years. The Underberg guesthouse for instance was built in 1860 and perfectly compliments the even older Table Mountain that serves as a backdrop to this distinguished Victorian beauty.
No matter if it is Tamboerskloof or Long Street; there is a place of rest for every traveler seeking to experience the ambience and diversity of the one and only Cape Town.
